what do you mean you were never aware that you had another habitable body to use while you slept? such are the mechanics of SBURB. without those bodies - dream selves, if you will - where would you all be? a doomed session, that's where.
❝ PROSPIT AND DERSE ❞ | ▼ |
Seeing as playing SBURB is a predestined occurrence, any player will be ”born” with something commonly referred to as a dream self, an able body that your soul takes residency in while your waking self is asleep. Hence the name “dream self”. However, a player is often unaware of their dream self for all of their life, up until the their session starts and their dreaming selves “wake up”, becoming accessible to the player to utilize. The exception to this rule is that space players are known have had their dream selves woken up from a very young age. As for the other players of a session, when, exactly, the dreaming selves become available depends on the person and their sleeping habits. A person who sleeps frequently will likely wake up earlier than one who sleeps little, unless there is an interference by another player's awoken dream self.
So where are these dream selves, anyway? Simple; Prospit and Derse, two city-planets in the Incipisphere whose people battle over the fate of Skaia. Dreamers are considered royalty on their respective planets, but are viewed as “evil” by the planet they do not originate from. There is an even number of Prospit dreamers and Derse dreamers in a session, and an even number of males and females in both. The dream self sleeps in a room at the top of one of the planets towers – a tower for each dreamer – and only becomes active when the main player falls asleep in their waking body. Dream selves are imperative in the process of ascending to the God Tier, seeing as it is the dream self that ascends and not one's waking self. In addition, should the waking self die, kissing it's corpse within a certain limit of time will awaken the dream self; consider it an extra life, if you will.
The Kingdom of Light, one of two kingdoms in a continuous battle between good and evil fighting to determine the fate of Skaia, which it so closely orbits. They are in constant battle with Derse who wishes to cause the Reckoning – the summoning of meteors from a meteor belt known as the Veil that would most definitely destroy Skaia – but are always destined to lose.
Prospit is a golden city-planet quite resembling it's polar opposite. It has a single moon, where the towers that dreamers sleep in are located, that is connected to the planet by a massive chain. The planet is ruled by it's White Queen, and the streets are littered with white carapaced citizens, the likes of which resemble white chess pieces. Here, there are a cluster of spires – one per each player in the SBURB session – where the data from each Kernelsprite prototyping pre-entry is contained. Prototyping sprites pre-entry changes the appearance of the monarchy here, and by extension, the civilians and enemies encountered in the Medium.
The Kingdom of Darkness, one of two kingdoms in a continuous battle between good and evil fighting to determine the fate of Skaia, which it orbits from a great distance beyond the Veil. They are in constant battle with Prospit, which wish to stop the Reckoning, but are always fated to win. The monarchy, therefor, become the antagonists in the session and the players are tasked with killing the Black King and Queen to prevent Skaia's destruction.
